Pilates Exercises

Pilates exercises are performed mainly in a sitting/lying position on the floor, meaning most are low impact and are partially weight bearing. Pilates really can make a difference to your health without taking a toll on your body.

All exercises can be adapted to make them easier or progressed to make them more challenging. Pilates is suitable for all age groups and abilities from beginners to advanced students.

At the moment we have a range of abilities in each class and students span the age of 21 to 81 years!

While performing each exercise to work the different muscle groups in the body, we focus on correct spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing and flowing movements.  The "core" area of the body, stengthening the deep abdominals and muscles closest to the spine, is important in every exercise.

We may use equipment such as balls and bands to add variety and challenge.

People who are completely new to exercise can start Pilates and be comfortable.  People who are very advanced in Pilates continue to be challenged by it throughout their lives.

Pilates can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs.  The exercises build the body's core strength and improve posture through low repetition, low impact stretching and conditioning exercises which build muscle without adding bulk.

It is a safe, sensible exercise system that will help you look and feel your very best. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement.  Pilates also improves flexibility and agility. It can even help alleviate back pain.
