Along with emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment and concentrating on smooth flowing movement, you become more aware and in tune with your body.  In Pilates, quality of movement is more important than quantity of repetitions.

 

Proper breathing helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency and also helps lower blood pressure and enhance relaxation.

 

Pilates teaches balance and control of the body and that capacity spills over into the other areas of your life.
